Congratulations to the 2007 Player of Year Winners! 

There’s no stopping Leon Lowe, ofFountain Hills.  For the third time in four years,Leon was named Unit 354’s Player of the Year for Flight A (1000+).  He accumulated a whopping 99.3 masterpoints (10more than for last year’s win) in the unit’s four sectional tournaments held during 2007-08.  Leon has been a Valley resident for five years and holds more than 7,000 MPs.  He is the current Treasurer of Unit 354.  

The Flight B winner (300-999) is Calvin Marvin, of Sun City West, who compiled an impressive 41.06 MPs. “I have enjoyed playing card games forever and let me say that the partners and teams I play with have been instrumental in my success this year,” said Calvin. “Some of my partners tell me that if I knew how to bid the game and wasn't so darned aggressive, I'd be even better, so I’ll work on that in the coming year.”  Calvin is an outgoing Board member who served last year as head of the Judiciary/Ethics Committee.

The Flight C winner (100-299) wasTony Stack, ofPhoenix, with 23.30 MPs.   At 20, Tony is the youngest player to win that award.  “I started playing bridge in Oct., 2001 and won my first masterpoint in April, 2002,” boasts a proud Tony who frequents bothScottsdale clubs.  He is the son of former Unit 354 Treasurer Tom Stack and his older brother and attorney, Tom Jr., is a former Unit 354 caddy who also plays in club games. 

Rod Bias, also of Phoenix and one of the newly elected Unit 354 Board members, was the Flight D (0-99) winner with 27.85 MPs.  Rod is particularly proud of his achievement of compiling 134 MPs, including 13.43 gold, during the first seven months of 2007.

These four Players of the Year received certificates at the Presidents' Day Sectional Feb.15-18 at the Glendale Civic Center.
